Janet Soskice at the current meeting of Anglican and Catholic bishops ended one on her reflections with, “Stop navel gazing and get on with it” (after reminding us – referencing Augustine – that God knows who we are so we don’t have to be anxious about it).
It struck me that “Go and get on with it” might be an innovative translation of “Ite missa eat”, the dismissal at the end of mass. Do how about commending a new final dialogue for our communion service: Go and get on with it. In the name of the Lord, Amen.
Alternative suggestions welcomed. Another favourite of mine is “This service of worship is over: let the service of our lives begin.”
