A behind the scenes view as we gathered this lunchtime to hear from Emma Buchan and Brian Heasley about the national prayer initiative Thy Kingdom Come in the “novena” days between Ascension Day and Pentecost. As you can see, we rather packed out the episcopal drawing room (and shortly after I took the photo latecomers filled the empty chairs too). Go to http://thykingdom.co.uk/about/ to find out more, and look on this blog at https://bpdt.wordpress.com/thy-kingdom-come/ for local resources. In Ely Diocese I am encouraging local churches to take part as suits their context but to consider sending in prayer requests and prayerful thoughts to me to feed into our Pentecost Praise service at 7.30pm at the Cathedral on Sunday May 15th when we will have an upbeat Confirmation service with a live band as usual, offer the prayers, pray ourselves – and have a Skype link to hear a message live from the Archbishop of Canterbury. Individuals and groups from parishes not sending candidates are most welcome. Those with candidates are asked to contact the Precentor Jim Garrard firstname.lastname@example.org to book them in. As usual this will be a lively service in contemporary vein with modern as well as older songs and will last around 90 minutes.
