The organisation was formed in 2003 and was commissioned the following year by the then Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams. It is committed to help build a church which is diverse, local, renewed in the Spirit and effective in mission. It looks to work with churches at a national, regional and local level to help increase confidence and support growth. Its patron is the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu.
Kevin, who will take up his post in April, said: “It will be a privilege to lead the team and to build on the work that has gone before in order that we can look to broaden our reach.
“I believe that ReSource has a unique contribution to make to the Church. Our commitment is to serve the national and local leadership of churches of all denominations and to encourage a deeper engagement with God the Holy Spirit, as the source of our new life in Christ and as the inspiration for our mission.”
Kevin will take on the role from Interim Director Alison Morgan, ReSource’s thinker and writer, and Director of its Rooted in Jesus programme, who has led the team since the death, last July, of ReSource Director Martin Cavender.
Kevin, who was ordained in 1983 and has been Archdeacon for the last seven years, added: “I want to build on the wonderful work begun by Martin and Alison. The foundations are strong and firm on which to build for the future and there will be much prayer and conversation in order for us all to discern what the Holy Spirit wants of ReSource in the years to come.
“We will be continuing to explore how we can best help bishops, denominational leaders and local church leaders in the work of the spiritual renewal of the church. ReSource has a particular heart for reaching out and supporting those small, local, ordinary churches and this is something I am passionately committed to.”
Kevin comes to the role after two years as a Trustee for ReSource. He has also led five ‘Rooted in Jesus’ trips to Zambia, Burundi and Rwanda, organised by the charity, and which look to build discipleship in Africa.
The Ven David Picken, Chair of Trustees for ReSource, said: “We’re delighted that Kevin is to be the new Director of ReSource and are confident that he will build on the tremendous work which has gone before.
“In recent years we have worked together closely, both as Trustees and through the Rooted in Jesus programme, and I know that we have in Kevin a leader who is passionate about encouraging people to know the renewing power of the Holy Spirit in their lives and in their churches.”
Meanwhile Kevin’s wife, Anne, who is currently a hospital chaplain at Carlisle’s Cumberland Infirmary, has been appointed the Palace Pastor for the Bishop of Bath and Wells.
Her part-time role will see her support all the staff who live and work on the site as well as exploring how the palace and gardens can be interpreted spiritually. It means the couple will have a home only a few hundred yards from the UK offices of ReSource.
