Sonnets, Airs and Dances: songs and chamber music by Philip Wood

New on the Divine Art label (dda 25131) this gorgeous collection of 24 short pieces by Cockermouth composer Philip Wood.

Philip was a massive help to us with the music at All Saints’ Cockermouth when I was there, setting my “Cumbrian Carol” for our choir and so much more. It’s great to see his first solo CD coming off the press, and you’ll find his work very much in the English lyrical tradition with Britten and Vaughan Williams there in the background and the birdsong of the Solway too.

You can preview “When as the Rye” (from ‘Five Spring Songs’) at
