What an absolutely glorious week it has been to start my sabbatical in Durham. I’ve got excellent accommodation in St John’s College just along the Bailey from the east end of the cathedral pictured here. Jean is back home now after helping settle me in, and I’m starting to have some great conversations around my science and faith theme, with physics professors and undergraduates alike – and lots of contacts to follow up. Pevsner’s County Durham volume is now on the shelf too for some day trips out to soak up the heritage, so watch out for blogs on the local churches as well as the sabbatical subject. Huge thanks to St John’s for their generous hospitality and the home team at Ely for allowing me the study leave.
