Children put in award ceremony for their headteacher!

The Children of Stonham Aspal VA School in Suffolk invited their own headteacher Mr Paul Hesketh to an award ceremony and party this afternoon to say thankyou as he prepares to retire after more than 26 years at the school. Each class gave him its own handmade gold award for such things as school trips and organising their football, and staying with the football theme they all wore red to mark his allegiance to Liverpool FC. A specially commissioned tea set was also presented to him (his tea drinking is legendary) along with other gifts. I attended on behalf of the Diocese and presented a long service award and asked the children to help me remind Paul that they – around 1000 pupils over the years – were the real tribute to him, as he has given them a firm foundation for life, helped them build community, and reach for the stars.
