I’m packing in the engagements now to try and fulfil as many as I can before Easter and out departure. I was particularly pleased to be at the new Felixstowe Academy yesterday to commission the uber-excellent Josh waxed-his-legs-for-Red-Nose-Day Hunt as chaplain.
This is an exciting development of national significance. FXA as it is known is a new-build academy in one of the big chains and is straightforwardly part of the maintained sector and without a faith character. So this is new territory for chaplaincy. Josh’s funding is largely from Churches Together in Felixstowe through their BOOST project, and it is their good relationships with each other, the academy and the town that have been an important factor in establishing the partnership.
In my address I referenced the fact that it was the 35th anniversary of Oscar Romero’s martyrdom. He witnessed to how authentic Christian ministry, inspired by the love of God for us, can show and sow love into the whole community. I call it Li-lo theology: love in, love out. Josh has already made a great start in doing just that.
