More from Nettlestead: and a puzzle

On the right is the Sayer monument I mentioned in my first post. But what is on the left? I'm away from my reference books so it's time to Ask the Audience. Any writing on the black central section was invisible to me, but what is that that looks uncomfortably like a top hat serving as the crest on the helmet?

  1. Interesting. There’s a Sayer monument in St Mary Huntingdon too in the tower. Maybe more than one – I can’t remember for sure, but you need to brush up your Greek to read it. The surround of brown/white marble with black plaque is identical. Sorry though I can’t help you with the symbology at Nettlestead.
