The Bishop feeds the Sheep: 13th Century Style

This is Robert Grosseteste, Bishop of Lincoln, in a memorandum to the Pope in 1250. He must have had immense stamina. Immense wealth too as he paid for all the costs of his retinue on tour, not charging them to his hosts as many did. Do pray for Martin as he prepares to get to know the sheep of Suffolk, and no doubt go a-visiting too. And by the way, I’ve just discovered Grosseteste was a Suffolk lad, from one of the Stows or Stradbroke. It’s about time we made more of him.
