The lych gate at Kelsale looks like something from The Lord of the Rings. In fact it is an amazing Arts and Crafts piece by E S Prior, now lovingly restored, which I had the joy of re-dedicating today – along with a lovely new altar frontal. I joined church members, children from the local school, descendants and relatives for a lively service which the childen crowned with a great shout of joy. Creativity and craftsmanship, generosity and craftsmanship have come together to add a new layer of history to this wonderful church, a layer which now becomes heritage in its own right. The endeavour is such that a bid went in yesterday to the a Heritage Lottery Fund for more work to help the church be at the living heart of its community and I hope it succeeds: they deserve it!
